Walt Whitman Walking Tour of Fort Greene Park

The Walt Whitman Walking Tour of Fort Greene Park is comprised of 3 stops in the park with an emphasis on Walt Whitman's role in founding the park and his influence as America's reknowned poet. At each stop, there will be a reading of Walt Whitman's poems (either from Leaves of Grass which was published while he lived in the neighborhood or a poem about Brooklyn) and a reading of original work by Angeli Rasbury inspired by Whitman and the neighborhood. The 3 different stops in the tour (Fort Putnam Redoubt, the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument, and the Crypt) are to root the attendees in a physical place and to contemplate how the poetry they are hearing relate to the park and the neighborhood and the ever-changing nature of both.
