Somatic Poetry: Writing your Body Myth with Dr. Rebecca Chapman

This event is in coordination with The Fundraiser for Rotten Kidneys to benefit fellow poet, YaNi Davis.

About This Event:

This two-hour generative workshop welcomes all folx—new to writing, seasoned poets, just here to look around—to explore embodied storytelling using sensory somatic (that is to say, body-centered) experiencing techniques. We can think of memory as the selection of images, affect, and narrative. In this way, each image, story, or sensory experience is contained in our own, private mind-body library. This workshop will put us in the practice of remembering the stories and resources we hold inside.

About the Facilitator:

Dr. Rebecca Chapman (she/they) is a queer, neurodivergent poet based in Portland, Oregon whose work plays with elegiac modes to explore how grief and loss might be processed from different perspectives, through different poetic forms. Rebecca is dedicated to scaffolding resources for poets from marginalized communities who take nontraditional approaches to practicing their craft. For this reason, she served her community as volunteer Director of Development at The Poetry Lab in Los Angeles, and she is a founding and current member of Poetry Friends Forever: A Teaching Poets Collective (aka PFFs).

About the Fundraiser:

This 3-day poetry/creative writing marathon benefits YaNi Davis @yanimeanspeace , a fellow poet who has been battling kidney disease and whose life is at risk due to kidney failure.

Several poets are coming together to host poetry workshops on topics they feel passionately about. All the workshop registrations are donation-based. ALL DONATIONS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO YANI'S LIVING AND MEDICAL EXPENSES.
