Sacramento Poetry Day 2022

Declared by Mayor Anne Rudin in 1986, Sacramento Poetry Day had been all but forgotten. Sacramento Poet Laureate Andru Defeye, with support from the American Academy of Poets, is bringing Sacramento Poetry Day back to life in a new, exciting, and representative way for the new generation by creating an engaging Sacramento poetry curriculum for the over 250,000 students in the Sacramento area school systems. In addition to a locally sourced poetry curriculum created alongside Sacramento poets and educators and made free to the public, over 20 of Sacramento's favorite poets will be zooming into area schools to perform in classrooms on October 26th. Leading up to Sacramento Poetry Day there will be a citywide cash prize poetry contest for young people 18 and under. There are a few more surprises coming as well. Stay tuned!
