Join us for a live virtual reading with Kristy Bowen, laaura goldstein, Dominique Dusek, and Damon Locks. The Open Door series presents work from new and emerging poets and highlights writing instruction and poetic partnerships. Each event features readings by two Chicagoland writers and two of their current or recent students or writing partners.
A writer and book artist working in both text and image, Kristy Bowen is the author of a number of chapbook, zine, and artist book projects, as well as several full-length collections of poetry/prose/hybrid work, including the recent SEX & VIOLENCE. Bowen is the founder of dancing girl press & studio.
laaura goldstein is the author of the full-length poetry collections loaded arc and awesome camera, as well as numerous chapbooks. With Jennifer Karmin, Goldstein co-curates the Red Rover Reading Series in Chicago. She is a lecturer at Loyola University and lives in Chicago.
Dominique Dusek’s work has appeared in Jet Fuel Review and Windows Fine Arts Magazine. After earning her Bachelor’s in Creative and Professional Writing at Lewis University, Dominique returned to school to pursue her Master's in Secondary Education. She currently applies her passion for teaching writing as a middle school language arts teacher in Oak Brook. Her chapbook, Self Portrait With Playroom and Diazepam is currently available through Dancing Girl Press.
Damon Locks is a Chicago-based visual artist, educator, vocalist/musician. He attended the Art Institute of Chicago where he received his BFA in fine arts. Since 2014 he has been working with Prisons and Neighborhood Arts Project at Stateville Correctional Center teaching art. He is a recipient of the Helen Coburn Meier and Tim Meier Achievement Award in the Arts and the 2016 MAKER Grant. He operated as an Artist Mentor in the Chicago Artist Coalition program FIELD/WORK. In 2017 he became a Soros Justice Media Fellow. In 2019, he became a 3Arts Awardee. Currently he works as an artist in residence as a part of the Museum of Contemporary Arts' SPACE Program, introducing civically engaged art into the curriculum at the high school, Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy. Damon leads a group entitled Black Monument Ensemble and is a founding member of the group The Eternals.
