The international Nicholas A. Virgilio Haiku and Senryu contest for students opened on Tuesday, Jan. 20, and all submissions are due on Friday, March 20 at 11:59 PM EDT.
Six winners will be chosen and will each receive a prize of $250. The students do not have to have prior experience with writing haiku or senryu, and the contest is open to all students in grades 7-12. Here are some resources on writing haiku for beginners.

Regulations:
- Submit up to three haiku/senryu.
- Contest submissions must not have been already submitted elsewhere for publication.
- AI generated haiku will not be considered.
Eligibility: Students in grades 7 through 12, enrolled in school as of September 2025.
