Mega Corazon 2018

In celebration of National Poetry Month, URBAN-15 presents Mega Corazón 2018, an annual spoken word marathon featuring San Antonio’s premiere performance poets. Celebrating a hybrid San Antonio poetic tradition that combines street, classical, and slam performance styles, Mega Corazón is frontal, improvisational, at times painful, and often choreographed for a highly visual impact. This year’s Mega Corazón will take place on Monday, April 2nd from 1-9pm and can be viewed live and for free either in-studio (2500 S. Presa, San Antonio, TX 78210) or online (urban15.org/live-stream).

Poets confirmed to date include former state poets laureate Carmen Tafolla and Rosemary Catacalos; National Book Award finalist John Phillip Santos; Express-News poetry editor Jim LaVilla-Havelin; poetry slam champion Anthony “The Poet” Flores; Wings Press publisher Bryce Milligan; Jazz Poets founder Eduardo Garza, beloved spoken word artist Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson; playwright, poet and Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan elder Isaac Cardenas; and talented San Antonio poets Frances Treviño Santos, Eddie Vega, Natalia Treviño, Jacinto Cardona, Jessica Tilton-Zertuche, and Nathan Zertuche.

This year’s Mega Corazón will also offer commentary on San Antonio’s literary history by Jim LaVilla-Havelin, founder of National Poetry Month in San Antonio; as well as by Bryce Milligan on his recent edited volume Literary San Antonio. This segment will run 7pm-8pm.

Viewing Mega Corazon either in person or online is free of charge. Live performances take place at the URBAN-15 studio (2500 S. Presa, San Antonio, TX 78210) or online at http://urban15.org/live-stream. Afterwards, episodes are archived online at http://hiddenhistories.tv/archives/
