Hot New Book at Octopus

Bruce Bagnell has worked as a cook, mechanic, and college professor; held various management positions including running a car dealership; and was a USAF captain in Vietnam. Now retired, along with writing, he is a Poetry Express Berkeley host.  His poetry book, The Self-Evolution Spa, is due out from Sugartown Publishing in late August. 

Latina writer, MK Chavez is the author of several chapbooks including MothermorphosisDear Animal, her first full collection was released in October 2016 by Nomadic Press. Chavez is co-founder/curator of the reading series Lyrics & Dirges and co-director of the Berkeley Poetry Festival. She is a CantoMundo Fellow and at the San Francisco Grotto. Chavez’s poem The New WhitehouseFinding Myself in The Ruins, was selected by Eileen Myles for the 2017 Cosmonauts Avenue Poetry Award. 

Mary Mackey is the author of 7 collections of poetry including Travelers With No Ticket Home and Sugar Zone, winner of the 2012 PEN Oakland Josephine Miles Award for Literary Excellence. Mackey’s poems have been praised by Wendell Berry, Jane Hirshfield, Dennis Nurkse, Ron Hansen, Dennis Schmitz, and Marge Piercy for their beauty, precision, originality, and extraordinary range. In Fall 2018, Marsh Hawk Press will publish The Jaguars That Prowl Our Dreams: New and Selected Poems by Mary Mackey 1968 to 2018.

Terry Lucas is the author of two full-length poetry collections: In This Room and Dharma Rain. In addition he is the author of two award-winning poetry chapbooks: Altar Call, selected by the 2013 San Gabriel Valley Literary Festival for the anthology, Diesel; and If They Have Ears to Hear, winner of the 2012 Copperdome Chapbook contest (Southeast Missouri State University Press, 2013). He has received numerous other writing awards, including the 2014 Crab Orchard Review Feature Award in Poetry, the fifth annual Littoral Press Poetry Prize, and six Pushcart Prize nominations.
