Eye Recite Presents: An Evening of Poetry featuring Ed Mabrey with Special Guests Prolific the Poet and the Thornwood Thunderbirds Speech and Drama Team

Eye Recite will host an evening of poetry featuring 4 time Individual World Slam Poetry Champion Ed Mabrey along with special guest Thornwood High School Speech and Drama Team and Prolific the Poet, Thursday, April 18, 2019, at The Quarry Event Center 2423 E. 75th Street Chicago, IL 60649, from 7pm to 10pm. This event is open to the public, family-friendly, and will serve food. There is no charge for the event, which is supported by Poets & Writers and Henry Williams Love Foundation.

Ed Mabrey is the only 4-time Individual World Poetry Slam Championand the only 4- time Southern Fried Regional Poetry Slam Individual Champion.He is also a two-time InkSlam winner, multiple LEAF Slam Champion, and an Emmy winner. Ed has been on Seasons 3, 5 and 6 of Verses and Flow (TV One), ABC, FOX, HBO All Def Digital, Write About Now Poetry and was a speaker at 2015 TEDx Dayton. He currently tours the country professionally as a poet, comedian, and motivational speaker.

The Thornwood High School Speech and Drama Team has seen a significant amount of success since Javon J. Smith was appointed coach in 2017. Javon, a poet himself, has used his love for words and theatre to inspire the students at Thornwood to appreciate the beauty and power in language and literacy. His team recently placed 4thplace in prose and was the runner up in poetry reading at the ISHA Speech Series statewide competition.

Prolific is a spoken word artist from the west side of Chicago is the Founder of Notes for Hope and released her debut spoken word album, “A Prolific Collection” in 2018. She uses her passion for poetry to inspire, inform, connect with people, and further the footprint of poetry in communities.

The event will be hosted by 2016 National Poetry Awards-Best Poetry Album recipient, Kai Love, and live music provided by the Michael Flowers Experience with members Michael Flowers, Jr. on keyboard, Joshua Lane on bass, and Justin Collins on drums.
