The Never-ending Spiral

by Kerri Homerick

Dense tree trunks jut out from underneath
the grey marbled headstones.
And little speckles of light and dark
sparkle as the sun is captured in the depth.
Names etched in slat stone faces
accompany words of inspiration
to keep memory breathing.
Flowers bloom wildly in unorganized fashion
and sit atop yellowed grass and dirt.
The ground is littered with dead caterpillars;
And cocoon webs spawn-
overtaking the forks of branches,
as a butterfly flutters by;
And somber passerby’s
curse natures reciprocation
in the midst of the dichotomy
of life and death.
