John Martin Crawford

John Martin Crawford, born on October 18, 1845, in Herrick, Pennsylvania, was an American scholar. He is best known for his translation of the Kalevala from Finnish into English. Also a translator of Russian, Crawford translated the five-volume The Industries of Russia (Department of Trade and Manufacture Imperial Ministry of Finance, 1893) for the World’s Columbian Exposition, also known as the Chicago World’s Fair.
