Frances Densmore
Frances Densmore, born May 21, 1867, was an American ethnomusicologist whose writings frequently appeared in the journal American Anthropologist. Best known for her preservation of Native American music, Densmore recorded over 2,400 songs, primarily on the behalf of the Smithsonian Institution’s Bureau of American Ethnology (BAE). She died on June 5, 1957, in Red Wing, Minnesota.
