In 2009, Kent State University's Wick Poetry Center collaborated with communication design students to create an award-winning community arts project. Called Traveling Stanzas, this project paired poems with graphic designs that have since been featured in numerous public spaces. Speak a Powerful Magic: Ten Years of the Traveling Stanzas Project includes a representative collection of these illustrations and features poems by award-winning American poets alongside work by students, refugees, veterans, and other members of the wider community. In the foreword, Naomi Shihab Nye writes, "Poetry helps us know one another quickly, offers intimate insight, encourages us to remember and imagine.... Speak a Powerful Magic is an act of pure love, from start to finish. The voices it contains are heartening, humane."
