Published in association with the Royal Society of Literature, King’s College London, and Shakespeare 400, a yearlong celebration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, On Shakespeare’s Sonnets: A Poets’ Celebration collects poems from thirty celebrated contemporary poets, all inspired by the Bard’s sonnets. Each contemporary poem is paired side-by-side with its original inspiration, as it presents a new take on Shakespeare’s themes—death, time, love, etc. This collection, which features poets such as Simon Armitage, Carol Ann Duffy, and Paul Muldoon, was edited by Hannah Crawford, a lecturer in Shakespeare studies at King’s College, and Elizabeth Scott-Baumann, a lecturer in early modern English literature at King’s College.
