New York, NY (September 28, 2022)—Andrews McMeel Publishing (AMP) will partner with the Academy of American Poets to release 100 Poems That Matter on December 6, 2022, announced Kirsty Melville, AMP President and Publisher. Examining universal themes of love, loss, and the experiences that define us, 100 Poems That Matter feeds into the connections we all have to poetry and encourages us to bring a deeper sense of honesty into our lives.

“We are proud to partner with the Academy to bring this inspiring volume to the public,” said Melville. “It is testimony to our long-standing relationship with the Academy, and reaffirms and reflects our shared commitment to poetry and the importance of the genre. 100 Poems That Matter ideally aligns with our title offerings, and, as a premier publisher of New York Times-bestselling poetry collections, we are particularly excited to share it with readers.”

“We’re grateful to Andrews McMeel for their partnership in poetry. We’re thrilled to be collaborating with them on this opportunity to present a collection of poems intended to invite new readers to poetry and prompt reflection,” said Jennifer Benka, President and Executive Director of the Academy of American Poets.

The first book from the Academy since 2015, 100 Poems includes the work of classic and contemporary poets such as Emily Brontë, E. E. Cummings, Kahlil Gibran, Audre Lorde, and Emily Dickinson, as well as the current U.S. Poet Laureate, Ada Limón, and other past laureates. The collection includes an introduction by Richard Blanco, the Education Ambassador of the Academy of American Poets and President Barack Obama’s second inaugural poet, as well as contributions from Chancellors of the Academy and Poem-a-Day poets.

The accessible anthology is organized so readers can easily identify poems around a particular theme, ranging from “Poetry & Grieving & the Blues: Practice Losing Farther, Losing Faster” to “Poetry & the Body: Every Curve in the Mirror.” A moving, thought-provoking, and emotional anthology, 100 Poems That Matter invites readers to celebrate poetry’s power to capture the truths that are most significant in readers’ lives.
