In 2019, Fred L. Joiner was named an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow. Joiner organized and expanded the West End Poetry Festival; conducted writing workshops; established a salon that would use a rotating roster of local eateries and cafes around the county as a venue; and supported a retreat/residency/performance space.
