In 2022, Huascar Medina was named an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow. Medina will organize Words Save Lives, a poetry reading event, in conjunction with mental health professionals, advocates, and suicide prevention organizations, to be held annually on World Suicide Prevention Day as an offering of support and outreach to communities across the state with poetry.
