Evie Shockley was born and raised in Nashville, TN. Her most recent collections include suddenly we (Wesleyan University Press, 2023), which was a finalist for the 2023 National Book Award in Poetry, and semiautomatic (Wesleyan University Press, 2017), winner of the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry.
