The Louise Bogan Award for Poetry and Criticism recognizes and supports outstanding poet-critics and their contributions to American poetry. Established through a legacy gift from the Louise Bogan Charitable Trust, the award honors Louise Bogan’s lasting impact as both a poet and a critic and celebrates the tradition of poets whose critical work fosters greater public engagement with poetry.
The recipient is selected by the Academy of American Poets’ Board of Chancellors in recognition of distinguished achievement in poetry and criticism and receives a prize of $5,000. As such, the award does not have an open submission process. The award is endowed and will be given annually.
The first recipient will be announced during National Poetry Month in April 2027.
