Public Forum Drama Club: Lorca in New York

In 1929, a young Federico García Lorca was studying at Columbia University. Transfixed by his surroundings, he produced Poet in New York – a love letter to the city, warts and all. Nilo Cruz’s vibrant translation and stage adaptation brings the poetry of Lorca’s words and of our fair metropolis to life. The cast will feature Saeed Jones (BuzzFeed Literary Editor and author of the PEN/Joyce Osterwell Award-winning poetry collection Prelude to Bruise) and more.

Public Forum presents the theater of ideas: performances and conversations with leading artists, intellectuals, and citizens about the way we live now.  It’s long-running Drama Club series is like a book club for plays: actors and non-actors alike take the stage to read a short play then discuss its themes.  Featured writers have included Tony Kushner, Thornton Wilder, Vaclav Havel, and Caryl Churchill and featured performers have included Salman Rushdie, Cynthia Nixon, Liz Roberts of SAFE HORIZON, Anne-Marie Slaughter, Uzo Aduba, and more.
