Poetic People Power will present its newest show, While We Were Sleeping, at the first NYC International Human Rights Art Festival on March 4th. Using poetic storytelling, this show illuminates human rights abuses around the world. Spoken word artists include Tara Bracco, Philippe Garcesto, Karla Jackson-Brewer, Shane Michael Manieri, Shetal Shah, Natalia Vargas-Caba, and Kesav Wable. Poetic People Power was founded by writer Tara Bracco in 2003 to create an ongoing project that combines poetry and activism. Each year, a diverse group of poets are commissioned to write new works about a political or social issue. The new poems are then presented to a public audience in a professional spoken word show. Poetic People Power raises awareness on specific topics and engages audiences through the expressive art of poetry. Tickets can be purchased at dixonplace.org
