Paul Cummins, renowned educator and founder, CEO, and President of Coalition for Engaged Education (formerly New Visions Foundation), is committed to creating opportunities for all children to have equitable access to a quality education. He has founded and co-founded numerous schools including Crossroads School, New Roads School, Camino Nuevo Charter School, and New Village Charter School, as well as P.S. Arts, an NPO providing arts classes to children in Title I schools. Cummins has published four books on education, a biography, two volumes of his original poetry, and two children's books. His newest book, Confessions of a Headmaster was published by Red Hen Press.
Jared Diamond began his scientific career in physiology and expanded into evolutionary biology and biogeography. He has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical society. Among his many awards are the National Medal of Science, the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, Japan’s Cosmo Prize, a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, and the Lewis Thomas Prize Honoring the Scientist as Poet, presented by Rockefeller University. He has published more than six hundred articles and his book, Guns, Germs, and Steel (W. W. Norton & Company, 1997), was awarded the Pulitzer Prize.
