This workshop will explore a wide range of Asian and Asian American poetry, examining culture, influence, dual-nationality, language, and heritage. The broad theme of this discussion will address the space between feelings like an Asian and feeling like an American. Students are also invited and encouraged to submit poems in their native tongue along with English translations for a discussion on the nuances, background, and history of each poem. Participants will encourage one another and work as a group toward a deeper understanding of language and its movement into song as they collectively prepare for a recitation on Sunday.
