California State Route 1
by Leonard Morrison
Rider lain flat
sputters final blue sparks
under sunburnt splintered skies
and no one notices
black bile screaming
off highway into
ultramarine.
Oil slicked roads burn
patches of sleeve into
patches of smoldered skin
under fractured night sky
under glare of red
bones.
Arrow of time
drawn thin as hair
bursts open
needling dry
drops of go!
She wonders
what’s ahead of a body
or behind it.
