New York, NY (March 4, 2025)—The Academy of American Poets announces the elections of publisher Ellen Adler and editor Gabriella Page-Fort to its Board of Directors. Academy leadership expressed great enthusiasm for the new appointments:

About Ellen Adler and Gabriella Page-Fort

Ellen Adler, named “Person of the Year” by Publishers Weekly in 2021, is the former publisher of The New Press, where she acquired and edited works of narrative nonfiction and memoir as well as books about inequality and social policy, including National Book Award finalist Arlie Russell Hochschild; the NAACP Image Award winner Susan Burton; Susan Linn, author of Who’s Raising the Kids?; and Sohaila Abdulali, whose book, What We Talk About When We Talk About Rape, became a touchstone for conversations about rape after the #MeToo movement went viral in 2017. Prior to joining The New Press, Adler held a range of editorial, marketing, and executive positions at Berlitz, Doubleday & Co., The Dial Press, and Alfred A. Knopf. A past trustee of and advisor to Columbia University Press, she served on the Association of American Publishers’ Freedom to Read Committee and was a member of the steering committee of the Independent Publishers Caucus.

Gabriella Page-Fort is executive editor at HarperOne, publishing New York Times-bestselling nonfiction by Jillian Turecki, Brianna Madia, and Pope Francis, as well as Sandra Guzman’s Daughters of Latin America: An International Anthology of Writing by Latine Women, Zora Neale Hurston’s never before published novel The Life of Herod the Great, and poet Sholeh Wolpe’s selection and new translation of twelfth century mystic poet Attar’s The Invisible Sun. Prior to HarperCollins, she served as editorial director of Amazon Crossing, an imprint of Amazon Publishing, where she published award-winning authors and international bestsellers from around the world. Page-Fort teaches Publishing Works in Translation at New York University’s School of Professional Studies and serves as a member of the board for the American Literary Translators Association, curates the book section at Hex Enduction Records & Books in Seattle, publishes the Hex Enduction Quarterly zine, plays music, and translates from French and Spanish.
