Writer's Block

by Cam Haggett

I need distance.
To move, to leave myself behind.
Drive to Chicago at midnight on a half-empty tank.
I need to go.

I need change.
To buy new clothes, to dye my hair.
Throw my phone over a bridge and watch it shatter.
I need to be different.

I need movement.
To run until my lungs give out, to pace across linoleum.
Walk across town and back again.
I need to take action.

I need time.
To have some freedom, to think things through.
Stop everything for a moment.
I need to hit pause.

I need inspiration.
To be struck, to have passion.
Something popping out in full, blinding color.
I need an idea.
