Phantom Road Study

by JMR

sound how it — erodes you — reroutes you — radio murmur in the dark — a room in white, the guesswork of a river — negative light undressing us

of our skin — bodies inventing music, inventing lack — the voice at the back — of the fever — darkness on the shrublands, a lapsing — body — the weeds that ring out like — struck glasses — the radio that bleeds — from its flimsy gums — memory of brass, still water — dearth as a thing — in the mouth, a body — a place — to be visited — my hands

making a garden — of my doubt

roses nodding in the sour rain
