Calypso

by Derek Ellis

the woodland sheets the rising

the thumbprint in the shattered egg

the cooked bacon now cold now warm again

no-strings called-off constant sunset

in the back of throat or mind

no knowledge left but of the indistinct

a blessedness seen in waiting

my last curd of blindness I will not let go

if I murder let me murder

what graphs are on your hands

what intimations slash madness

I need to see my friends

speak birds speak fire speak botany

into the cavern of my right ear

no one bigger is going to break me

my breaking will be my breaking

then cover me in fabrics

the petals I never cared for

let earth do the brunt of memory

I’m under where you sit

I don’t know how you keep it together

from the beginning I said I would leave
