Put Down Your Weapons

Being born with alligator skin makes it easier to stay alive–

Every time the phone rings I think he’s dead–

Do you remember when we played music on the computer every night before we fell asleep–

It’s lonely in the cold so we moved back to Ohio–

I went to school and punched Carl in the head on Valentine’s Day–

My mom has beautiful hands and a prominent cupid’s bow–

I’ve always ran faster than the boys that were bigger than me–

I started my period when I was thirteen and cried about it for hours–

I’ve never stood still for longer than three years–

I remember the first time I was called pretty –

When Alex died I thought that his family would too, I thought that’s how it worked–

My grandma takes me to church every saturday night, I can see God in her–

Stale bread gets saved for the ducks–

Art would make my brother and I fluffer-nutter sandwiches before he lost his mind–

My dad and I can drink a gallon of whole milk in one day, served with every meal–

The gun was gone and the woods were dark and the turkey was getting cold–

Debo made another facebook post–

Why is it so hard for me to pick up the phone–

I’ve never stepped on a crack in my entire life by choice–

My grandpa taught me how to garden and catch cherry tomatoes in my mouth–

The sun looks brighter today–

There are four fish always swimming upstream–

Sometimes, when I’m alone, I pray to something–
