The Hawaiian Sky Teaches Me the Story of Abraham

by Polley Poer

And how godly it is

to see how soft

it must’ve looked

at the beginning

of time I used to believe

Adam and Eve fucked

around in my own back-

yard in the cornfields feeding

the same horses I fed

as a child with both hands

apple slices in my palms

I got bit

before I knew what

a hellscape was

or the lava that blood-

spewed underneath

I don’t remember who said it

but we know now

Jupiter is burning & there is

no promised land
