A Prayer for Homophobes

by Grey Snyder

To be reborn as queer children, That I might be an elder to them In my lifetime. That I might tell them about their past lives unknowingly, That they will feel a cringe in their heart, Like an adult embarrassed by their actions in childhood, And not know why. Or perhaps they will have been homophobic again as children, Following the constructs they adhered to once, But now given the freedom to learn and experience through new eyes. That their souls might gain perspective through each new history, That when we reunite again, It will be as family.
