A Ghazal Anthem

by Maysam Seraji

I was born here, but for elsewhere I yearn.
It doesn’t exist. They let it all burn.

My homeland is dust and ashes in urns.
They took me away and let it all burn.

Who then, makes all this? Who watches worlds turn?
Don’t matter much now; they let it all burn.

They call me strange things I don’t want to learn.
I swallow it down and let it all burn.

They try hard to break me and make me squirm.
I laugh at those fools. I’ll let them all burn.

My time is coming to pay what they earned.
No nations, no borders. Let it all burn.
