Speedway & Swan is a one-hour free-format radio program that presents contemporary poetry against a context of musical selections. In each episode, creator and host Brian Blanchfield, who won the 2014 James Laughlin Award, is joined in conversation by a rotating cohost who reads a selection of poetry from his or her personal canon, along with poems from recently released poetry collections.
Airing every two weeks, Speedway & Swan represents a partnership between the University of Arizona Poetry Center, which archives the show, and KXCI 91.3 Tucson Community Radio, where the show streams live. In the latest episode, poet and photographer Samuel Ace joins Blanchfield and shares poems by queer poets writing during the last several decades, as well as new poems that re-make myth and ideas of paradise. It features work by Ari Banias, Cynthia Cruz, Judy Grahn, Stephen Kuusisto, Eileen Myles, Trace Peterson, Nick Twemlow, Ocean Vuong, John Wieners, and a recording of Danez Smith reading his own work.
