A New American South: Impressions from the Front Porch on Juneteenth
When the South says revival
Does it mean black homecomings and
voices so loud and proud that they break
the chained resistance of the enslaved horror?
When the South says revival
does revolution find its way?
Black cookouts are Camelot
in the South–
Celebrations despite
the forked tongues that pressed cruelty
when the South said survival,
Instead of reparation.
