Today's featured National Poetry Month event is the O, Miami Poetry Festival, which takes place every April and aims to ensure that every single person in Miami-Dade County encounters a poem during the month. O, Miami kicks off on April 1 with a poetic boat ride up the Miami River, and ends on April 30 with a teen poetry and music competition.

The festival includes over 30 events and 23 projects happening in the course of 30 days. Among this year's free events is a reading featuring former U.S. Poet Laureate Kay Ryan, and 2013 Beatrice Hawley-winner Jamaal May live on the 7,000 square foot New World Center as part of O, Miami's annual "Poetry in the Park Wallcast."

Other events include "The Outdoor MFA," a series of four workshops. Nonfiction writer Nathan Deuel will lead two Walking Workshops that guide participants through entire Miami neighborhoods, while poet Michael Hettich will take his two classes onto the water for the first-ever Kayak Poetry Workshops.
