New York, NY (March 22, 2018)—Actors Uma Thurman, Tim Daly, and Christine Lahti; visual artist Lorna Simpson; Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Patty Griffin; noted public radio host and National Humanities Medal recipient Krista Tippett; astrophysicist and acclaimed author Janna Levin; former White House pastry chef Bill Yosses; and National Student Poet Juliet Lubwama will read their favorite poems in celebration of National Poetry Month on April 25, 2018, at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall.

The annual event, titled Poetry & the Creative Mind, organized by the Academy of American Poets, promotes our country’s rich poetic legacy and raises critical funds for the organization’s education program, which includes free lesson plans and resources for K-12 teachers on—the world’s largest publicly-funded website for poets and poetry—and a special writing project for thousands of students.

Emceed by Academy of American Poets Chancellor and MacArthur Genius Grant recipient Terrance Hayes, the reading begins in the Starr Theater at 6:30 p.m. A private cocktail reception, where readers and attendees will be joined by poets serving as Honorary Hosts of the event, will follow in the front lobby at 8:15 p.m. This year, Honorary Hosts include current and former Chancellors Mark Doty, Linda Gregerson, Marie Howe, Marilyn Nelson, and Ron Padgett; Walt Whitman Award winner Jenny Xie; Laughlin Award winner Sam Sax; and Cave Canem co-founder Cornelius Eady.
