On April 1, 2004, the Academy of American Poets launched a web-based "National Poetry Almanac" that provided 365 days' worth of poetry highlights, activities, ideas, and history for individual exploration and classroom use.

Each day for one year, a new essay appeared on Poets.org. The essays were organized into monthly themes: in August, the Academy profiled 31 notable poetry landmarks; in March, Poets.org selected 31 groundbreaking books of poetry; in January, the Academy recruited 31 younger American poets to discuss the great poetry debates and manifestos that shaped our poetry landscape.

Collected now in its entirety, the National Poetry Almanac represents a significant achievement for the Academy of American Poets, and a valuable resource for students, teachers, writers, and readers of poetry.

NEAThis project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
