Ángel García

Ángel García is a Chicano poet born in Texas and raised in Southern California. He holds a a BA from the University of Redlands, an MFA from the University of California, Riverside, and a PhD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

García’s debut collection Teeth Never Sleep (University of Arkansas Press, 2018) was the winner of the 2018 CantoMundo Poetry Prize and a 2019 American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation, as well as a finalist for the PEN American 2019 Open Book Award and the 2020 Kate Tufts Discovery Award. He has received fellowships from CantoMundo, the Vermont Studio Center, and other organizations.

García is an assistant professor in the English department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
