“This poem, written using only verbs, and using only words that begin with letters D–M, was written after I had an insomniac’s dream/vision in which I was required by an unknown force to read the Unabomber’s manifesto from beginning to end. The punishment for failing to read the manifesto was never made completely clear to me, but I understood that it would be mentally difficult and draining. I was distraught when I woke up and I made lists, including lists of verbs from manifestos, and I wrote some poems with those verbs. That I was restricted from using verbs that began only with ten letters of the alphabet was connected to a deep sense that everything was missing, except for an undefined middle that did not want to be a middle.”
