Merwin, who received the 2014 Harold Morton Landon Translation Award and from 1988 to 2000 served on our Board of Chancellors, has in addition to a lifetime of poetry devoted himself to the environment. Recently, The Merwin Conservancy announced that the Merwin Palm Forest in Hawaii, the third largest private collection of palms known to exist on earth, will be permanently preserved.
